Travel with us to the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley and experience their newest exhibition the only time it will be on the West Coast: Auschwitz: Not Long Ago. Not Far Away. The exhibition brings together more than 700 original objects of great historic and human value; objects which were direct witnesses of the horrors of Auschwitz and the Holocaust. These objects serve as the guiding thread of a rigorous and moving account on the history of the German Nazi camp Auschwitz and its dwellers, both victims and perpetrators. Most of these items have never been shown to an audience on the West Coast before. Through this daunting selection of objects from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum as well as more than 20 institutions and museums all over the world, the Auschwitz exhibition portrays the complex reality of the notorious camp, which serves as a universal symbol of the human tragedies that resulted from Nazi ideology, and the world of victims and perpetrators with a clear goal – to elucidate how such a place could come into being and dig into how its existence has determined our present worldview.

The legacy of America's 40th president lives on throughout the rest of the Reagan Library. The museum experience integrates dozens of state-of-the-art interactive displays, thousands of artifacts, and a full-scale replica of the Oval Office decorated as it was during Reagan’s presidency, all housed in a 26,400-square-foot wing of the Library. Walk through Air Force One, the presidential jet used by Reagan and several other presidents; see the Marine One helicopter up close; and visit the world’s first operational stealth aircraft, the F-117 Nighthawk. Stroll past a section of the Berlin Wall that stands against the backdrop of the museum's stunning grounds, visit the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, and pay your respects at Ronald and Nancy Reagan's final resting site. Lunch is on your own at the museum’s café.

NOTE: The Auschwitz exhibition is recommended for ages 12+. Although the history of Auschwitz is challenging, this exhibition has been developed not only with profound respect for the victims, but also for visitors. Care has been taken to ensure that there are no gratuitous depictions of violence. Every effort has been made to consider the emotional impact this story can have on visitors, so that they can safely explore this history, seek to understand it better, and to make meaning for themselves.
